Wiley Center Protests
in Hopes of Warming the
Poorest Homes This Winter
The George Wiley Center,
under the direction of Henry
Shelton, organized
volunteers to protest in
front of National Grid
offices at noontime
throughout October and
November, 2006. They were
pleading with the utility to
restore services to those
who were shut off before the
November 1 moratorium.
Thousands of households will
be without heat this winter
if National Grid does not
relent. The protests were
reported in The Providence
Business News the week of
November 6 12, with a
photo on page 2. One of the
protesters holds a sign
reading: ³National Grid:
Turn the heat back on our
children and families.
The
Wiley Center mobilizes
citizens statewide and
advocates for changes in
laws and policies that will
help lift Rhode Islandıs
low-income children and
families out of poverty.
